Carmel Cottage
Thorn Architects was commissioned to design a seamless addition to this Carmel bungalow that included a sizable master bedroom and a spacious modern full bathroom. The scale of the addition is mitigated by breaking up the mass and roof line. Siting and exterior landscaping that includes an adjacent grotto with fountain and fire pit gives the owners the privacy expected of a master bedroom suite. The bathroom is a modern interpretation of the classical Roman bathing experience with mosaic stone floors, Calacatta marble walls and a sunken tub positioned to maximize views into the Del Monte Forest.
